Where to Find Inspiration for Your Creative Writing Projects

Finding inspiration for your creative writing projects can be an arduous task. After all, you’re not just looking for a random idea to write about — you’re searching for that single spark that will get your creative juices flowing. We’ve got some tips on how to find this and use it as motivation to get your words on paper (or screen).

Read, read, and read some more

Reading is a great way to get inspired. There are so many different types of literature and mediums that can give you fresh ideas or open up your eyes to something that’s been done before that you can add a new take to. Don’t limit yourself to just books or fiction genres. Being inquisitive online, indulging in journals or magazines–some of my favorite ideas came from reading National Geographic– or reading historical and cultural texts could be the spark to light the tinder of your next great story.

Indulge in art

Inspiration is all around you, not just words on the page. Try visiting a gallery or museum and looking at paintings, sculptures, or artifacts. Not local to an art gallery? Try searching online. No matter what kind of art you choose to indulge in, it’ll give your mind something new to chew on.

Look at the outside world

Daily life is full of inspiration. You can look at what is happening in the world, your community, or even your day-to-day. You might be inspired by a news story about someone overcoming an obstacle or making a difference for others–or you’ll discover something new about yourself when you learn more about someone else's experiences. The possibilities are endless!

Take a course

Take an online creative writing course with an expert like Creative Writing Ink. Online writing courses are great because they give you structure and guidelines for writing in a creative environment with a professional instructor with the tools to help you overcome roadblocks.

An online creative writing course can also provide access to other writers working on similar projects as yours, opening up your horizons to new ideas and viewpoints. Check out some of the courses available with Creative Writing Ink at .https://creativewritingink.co.uk/courses/

Work with other creatives

You might not know it, but you’re part of a community that can help you find inspiration for your creative writing projects. Working with other creatives can be a great way to get inspiration and get past writer’s block or lack of motivation. When you work in groups, you have more people who can help you brainstorm and inspire you, as well as share their own ideas. You can also get feedback from your peers on your work in progress, which can help you develop your ideas even further.

Harness your ideas

Whether it’s a book, a writing course, talking to peers, or a musical score that inspires you, there are plenty of ways to find inspiration. The key is putting in the effort to find what works best for your writing and harnessing it. Don’t let your resistance hold you back. Write!
