You’ve written a short story and want to get it into the world, so what’s next? There are many Do’s and Don’ts in publishing that writers tend to learn the hard way after years of rejection. What if you could skip all that and cut straight to the good stuff? This class will give you the actionable tools to take your work and get it seen by editors of literary journals/websites.

Please note: This class is not a guarantee for getting published. It offers up proven techniques to give you the best chance at getting seen.

Places are strictly limited to 10 participants. You don’t have to be based in the UK to take the course. We accept students from around the world!

Note that this is a course for adults. If you are under 18, then our creative writing course for teenagers or creative writing courses for children are more suitable.

You don’t have to be online at any particular time or day. Instead, the course is carried out through email correspondence, so you can read the notes whenever it suits you. There will be weekly notes and assignments over the course of six weeks. Tyler will read each assignment and provide written feedback. You’ll find out more about how the online courses work here.

Note: The tutor will email you on the course start date with your first module; please check your Spam/Junk folder for this email.

Week 3: This week focuses on researching and seeking out publications that are actively looking for work just like your own! I’ll highlight the best places to look, and the best insight into catching the eye of the preliminary readers who can pass your work up the editorial chain.

Week 4: This week, you will take the step and submit your properly formatted short story to a literary journal that you’ve found, and/or from a hand-picked list that I will send.

Week 5: This week focuses on the post-submission skills. What should you do while waiting to hear back? Are there tips and tricks for handling rejection?
