DURATION: 6 weeks
Start Date: 12th August 2020
Course is strictly limited to 10 participants. This course is for 10-12 year old students.
This creative writing course for 10-12 year olds is divided up into six modules. The student will be given notes, tips and assignments every week to help them. Nicola will read the assignments and she will provide written feedback on every assignment to help you become a better writer.
You don’t have to be based in the UK to take the course. We accept students from around the world! The course is carried out through email correspondence, so a student doesn’t have to be online at a set time/day. You’ll find out more about how the online courses work here.
When you have processed the payment, please email us at email@example.com with your child’s name and age.
Module 1: Telling Your Story
In Week One, we’ll explore the different ways of narrating, or telling, a story: looking at writing in the first person, second person, and third person.
Module 2: Structuring Your Story
Let’s think about writing a beginning, a middle and an ending. What about the tense?
Module 3: Meet Your Characters
Who are they? Where do they come from? Why are they here? And how are you going to introduce them to your readers?
Module 4: Whose Plot Is It Anyway?
To plan or not to plan? In Week 4, we’ll also look at how to keep your reader engaged and what lies ahead for your characters.
Module 5: Don’t Tell Me, Show Me!
In Module 5, we’ll look at Show, not Tell. This means that you do not tell the reader what to think about your characters. Instead, you can show it through dialogue and body language.
Module 6: The Joy Of Re-Writing
Finally, we’ll look at how to re-read your work and recognise the mistakes.
“My 10 year old daughter Molly has just completed the online Creative Writing Course for 10-12 year olds and I wanted to email to let you know how much she enjoyed it and how utterly brilliant Nicola Pierce was. The assignments were really clear and came with insightful and helpful suggestions and examples. Nicola’s feedback to Molly was really constructive, positive and comprehensive and she found it so motivating and exciting to engage with a published author. We have bought all of Nicola’s books for her for Christmas! Many thanks to Creative Writing Ink for such a super course.” Charlotte
