The Wells Festival of Literature’s Writing Competitions will open for entries from 1^st April.

Open Poetry

• No theme
• Maximum lines 40
• Entry fee: £8
• Judge: Clare Shaw
• Prizes: £1,000, £500, £250. Plus: £100 for a local author

Young Poets

• No theme
• Maximum lines 40
• Entry fee: £3
• Judge: Julia Webb
• Prizes: £750, £300, £200. Plus: £100 for a local author

Short Story

• No theme
• 1,000 to 2,000 words
• Entry fee £8
• Judge Carole Burns
• Prizes: £750, £300, £200. Plus: £100 for a local author

Book For Children

• Age range 8 years and up, to include Young Adults
• The first 3 chapters or the first 30 pages, whichever is the shortest, plus a synopsis
• No theme
• Entry fee £8
• Judge: Catherine Bruton
• Prizes: £200, £150, £100. Plus: a year’s subscription to the Poetry Society

Deadline: 30^th June for all categories except the Young Poets, which closes on 31^st July
