Competition Information

The Cats Protection Short Story Competition opens for entries on 20th January.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submit an original short story all about cats
  • Must be between 250 and 1,000 words
  • Open to writers ages 18+
  • Open to residents of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Judges: Jane Fallon, Anne Twist, Gail Porter, and Matt Richardson

Entry fee: £10

Prizes:

  • The winning entries will be published in The Cat magazine and showcased on Cats Protection’s website
  • Both category winners will also win a goody bag gifted by competition partner, Cult Pens, value of £350
  • Visit to a Cats Protection adoption centre to meet the cats awaiting rehoming

Deadline: Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
